Unfortunately, Gillingham’s ladies’ team, playing in the National League South, fall into the second category mentioned. We caught up with defender Ellie Jeffkins for some inside reaction to the cancellation of the Gills’ season. “My first thought was ‘I’m gutted’” mentioned the 21-year-old, who joined the club from Charlton Athletic in the summer. “Reason being is that we were just getting started and had been working so hard in training. “Due to cancellations because of waterlogged pitches, and setbacks, our season was only just beginning - especially in terms of good performances.” Currently, all professional leagues in England for bot

The Loan Players Situation - Written By Matthew Hill The loan market has proved to be extremely important for Gillingham’s men’s team this season. Over the course of the campaign, seven players have joined on a temporary basis – although not all of them are at the club anymore. Whilst Mikael Ndjoli and Alex Jakubiak have both been and gone since the season began, Alfie Jones, Thomas O’Connor, Jordan Roberts, Jordan Graham and Oliver Lee are still very much part of the current setup. With the size of the squad being quite small, however, all seven loan players have played their part as either regular starters, or consistently being called upon from the bench. But, with the club being so reliant on loan signings and with less than 10 games of the regular season remaining, if we ever get there, the topic of conversation is turning to what the squad will look like next season. The debate then turns to what will happen with the current loan players. We are going to start

Vicky Ashton-Jones - The Suspension Of Women's Football - Written By Lewis Browning In the last couple of weeks, the sporting world has collapsed. The COVID-19 illness has swept across the globe and caused the suspension of almost the entirety of sport worldwide, including all football in England. The decision to suspend the English game in particular has raised a number of questions. How will the seasons end? When will they end? Will they be behind closed doors? Will they even end? We caught up with the Gills’ ladies’ captain Vicky Ashton-Jones on Monday to discuss her thoughts on delaying the campaign and how the authorities could see the season out. “It’s naturally disappointing” said Ashton-Jones, when asked for her immediate reaction to the postponement. “We’ve been working really hard in training to have a successful second half of the season and to pick up some deserved points, but this situation is out of everyone’s hands. “Ultimately, people’s health is m

09/03/20 - Out On Loan - Written by Lewis Browning Welcome to ‘Out On Loan’, a feature published every Monday where we catch up on how those out on loan from Gillingham’s men’s team got on over the previous week. Another seven days of football have been and gone and it was a mixed week for our loan boys. We had victories, defeats, a few draws, and even some hammerings. There are seven players to check out; we begin in League Two. Ouss Cissé Ouss would have been itching to get back out on the pitch on Saturday after Leyton Orient’s match against Forest Green the previous week was postponed thanks to the weather. As he has been doing of late, the big midfielder started his Orient’s fixture at home to Cambridge on Saturday and saw out the 90 minutes, helping his side to a 2-1 victory in the process. Orient extended their unbeaten home run to seven matches with the win, and ‘King Ouss’, who has just been crowned Orient’s ‘Player of the Month’ for Januar

Lincoln v Gillingham - Player Ratings - Written by Lewis Browning Starting XI: Jack Bonham: 7 - Gets a seven for his match-saving stop from Anderson’s header, but his poor kicking is starting to become an issue. Was almost caught out when he booted the ball at the back of Hopper early on, however was saved by his centre halves. Put Ehmer under unnecessary pressure with a short pass not long after, too. Did what he had to do to keep the ball out of the net, however, and secured another good clean sheet. Barry Fuller: 5 - Looked a bit slow and his inability to get far forward down the right, perhaps due to age, can be frustrating. When compared to Eardley and Edun of Lincoln, he’s not as, let’s say, athletic. As always, however, he made light work of the Lincoln forwards, which we know we will get. Max Ehmer: 7 - Dealt with the tough conditions really well. Had to head plenty; he didn’t always get said headers right, but he did what he had to do. Kept the bal

Lincoln City v Gillingham - Opposition Fan Preview - Written by Lewis Browning Gillingham’s men take on Lincoln City this weekend and could end the day two points off the play-off places in League One. You can read our preview of the game here. We spoke to Gary from Lincoln fan site ‘The Stacey West’ about his team’s campaign so far, how he views the game, and what he predicts for the rest of Lincoln’s season. How’s your season been so far? It’s been odd. For instance, if you offered us 15 points clear of the bottom three come February back in July, we’d have taken it all day long. However, circumstances dictate that some fans are not happy with recent developments. Obviously, losing our management team in September was a big blow and the pain from that is still evident amongst some fans. Michael Appleton has come into a tough job; how do you possibly better the most successful management team in our club’s entire history? He’s doing a good job - we were
