Gillingham v Doncaster - Player Ratings - Written by Lewis Browning

Starting XI:

Jack Bonham: 7 - Didn’t put a foot wrong but hardly had anything to do. Didn’t have a chance with the goal and made one good punch to stop a corner going directly in after the wind took it. Marshalled his box really well when Doncaster were coming as the game came to a close.

Barry Fuller: 6 - A standard Barry Fuller performance. Defensively solid and his 35-year-old legs dealt with the pace of Doncaster’s wingers well. Doesn’t have much of an attacking threat which is a problem when the midfield is narrow, and he wants to hit the channels as much as possible, which can be frustrating. A solid showing from Barry, however.

Max Ehmer: 6 - Got spun for Sheaf’s goal but it was perhaps more the attacker’s skill rather than the defender’s error. Didn’t have too much to do with Donny going one up top after the red, but swept up really well when he had to.

Jack Tucker: 9 - Absolutely top class yet again. Held the defence together in the opening 20 minutes when Doncaster were on top and made one brilliant interception to deny Okenabirhie a clear run at goal. Read the game so well and laid into his teammates when they weren’t doing their jobs. Deservedly ‘Man of the Match’.

Connor Ogilvie: 7 - Has formed a nice partnership with Tucker on the left side of the defence. Had to be alert early on but then got forward well when the pressure was on the Gills to attack.

Tom O’Connor: 7 - Got booked early which could have limited him but he put in an impressive performance. His passing ability from deep has been a welcomed positive since he’s come back in and he’s deputised Jones excellently. A shame he’ll be leaving at the end of the season.

Stuart O’Keefe: 7 - Massive to have him back because his absence had certainly left a hole. Was always positive on the ball but it wasn’t really the game for him to have too much of an impact. Couldn’t manage the full 90, but did very well and, as mentioned, it’s great to have him back.

Ben Pringle: 6 - Has had a quiet couple of games and struggled once more to get into this one. Again he was neat on the ball, but didn’t produce anything of note.

Jordan Roberts: 8 - Perhaps his best performance in a Gillingham shirt so far. Worked tirelessly and did a very solid job in the number 10 role. His passing range is brilliant and was unfortunate if not wasteful not to score when he hit the post. Made the second own goal. Chance to sign him permanently in the summer, maybe?

Brandon Hanlan: 6 - Got into good positions but was pretty wasteful. Played out wide for a bit and looked threatening, but, as it often does, his touch let him down a lot. Probably needs a settled place in the team right now, but is down the pecking order in our best system and XI.

John Akinde: 5 - Think it’s pretty clear he’s still getting up to speed. Fair to say he lost the physical battle with the Doncaster defenders and seemed one step behind the game for the most of it. Missed a sitter, too - will give him the benefit of the doubt as he’s just joined.

Subs:

Matty Willock: 8 - Drove forward excellently and had brilliant positive intent which is when he’s at his most affective. Was only on for a little cameo, but made a huge impact when he was introduced. Played some really nice passes and was unfortunate to miss out on a well-deserved assist through Akinde’s miss. Is getting to his best for sure.

Jordan Graham: 6 - Is clearly much better out wide and had more of an affect out there in 10 minutes than he did in 45 on Tuesday. Always wanted to take his man on and get a ball in, and was fast and skilful. Just didn’t have long enough to leave his mark on the game.

Regan Charles-Cook: 6 - Wore number 11.
