Blackpool v Gillingham - Player Ratings - Written by Lewis Browning

Starting XI:

Jack Bonham: 6 - Didn’t have much to do and was fairly beaten for both goals. Caught the ball well in windy conditions, and he could maybe get away with using said conditions as an excuse for his kicking. A top ‘keeper.

Barry Fuller: 4 - In a poor run of form right now, is our Barry. Got beat by Gnanduillet for the opener before allowing Delfounseo to run off him for the equaliser. Always gives 100%, but not great at Bloomfield Road.

Max Ehmer: 6 - Doesn’t always enjoy the physical battles but handled himself well on the night. Is the clear leader in the team, now, which is good to see, and wasn’t afraid to give someone an earful when they needed it, whether it was a team mate, an opposition player, or an official - as he did when the flag didn’t go up after Delfounseo’s equaliser.

Jack Tucker: 7 - The best defender on the pitch and he just gets better every week. Didn’t shy away from the physical battles with Madine and Gnanduillet and is starting to look more comfortable on the ball, too. Very unlucky to hit the bar at 2-1. What a player he’s going to be.

Connor Ogilvie: 6 - Put in a few tasty-looking crosses which were good sources of creation throughout. Always seems to be in a battle and getting kicked around, but deals with it all well. Looks extremely comfortable on the ball these days.

Tom O’Connor: 5 - Would’ve been lower had it not been for his assist for the winner, but he definitely kept going throughout. Sometimes caught out of position and got turned inside out for the opener.

Jordan Graham: 6 - Struggled when asked to play more centrally than at the weekend but definitely showed positive attacking intent when he could. Hit one free kick into the wall, but is clearly a talent. Unfortunate it was him to make way at half time in order to give the team more of a balance.

Ben Pringle: 6 - Always gets the ball down to play when he can but he wasn’t as involved as he would have liked to have been. Seemed to struggle with the pace of the game in the second period, but he’s a good player and will come back positively.

Jordan Roberts: 7 - Put in a shift playing out of position and he’s very talented when it comes to the timing of runs and his movement in behind. Linked up well with Akinde and got a peach of an assist for his partner’s goal. Is proving to be a great January addition.

John Akinde: 7 - Struggled to get into the game at times but there will be games like that. Had a bit of a wrestling match with the centre halves, too, and managed to win his fair share in the air. Will be buzzing to get his first goal for the club, and he took it really well - here’s hoping it triggers a flurry of them for the big man as we continue our charge towards the play offs.

Brandon Hanlan: 7 - First half he was typical Brandon Hanlan; getting into good positions but not making the most of them. In the second he upped his game and was more direct, which is when he’s at his best. Always proves to be a nuisance and will be delighted with his last-minute winner.

Subs:

Stuart O’Keefe: 7 - Fit enough to come on at half time and gave the side so much more of a balance than it had in the first half, which is what he’s all about. Did the dirty work but was positive on the ball, too. Good to have him back.

Regan Charles-Cook: 8 - Was surprising that he didn’t start with Oliver Lee not making the starting XI through what we believe to have been illness. May have been pretty mad that Roberts played out of position behind the striker instead, but, when he was introduced, he made all the difference. Took his goal so well and almost a shoe in to start Saturday, now.

Mikael Mandron: 6 - Tall.
